Upstairs on 7th (Washington, DC) is packed with sophisticated clothes, funky accessories and lots of heart. Owner, Ricki Peltzman makes sure you get plenty of all three every time you visit. Peltzman buys exclusive designs in “slow fashion” – limited edition, beautifully crafted, timeless clothing from fashion designers like Ivan Grundel, Sarah Pacini, Butter by Nadia, Kadem Sasson, Planet, Caz, and Ray Harris. Buying with the eye of a curator – discerning, artistic, unique, she gives with the heart of a philanthropist. Every month since she’s been in business she hosts a charity event and gives a portion of the proceeds to better the lives of others.
This store isn’t for every woman and that’s by Peltzman’s own admission, “… the women that shop here have a certain confidence in their fashion sense.” That confidence includes a desire for ease and comfort. Peltzman makes sure the fashions she buys and her store environment ooze comfort. Her apparel choices are ideally suited for casual entertaining and relaxing weekends. Dress-up or dress-down, she’s got that perfect something just waiting to be found.
Her jewelry is true artistry. Designer Carolyn Zapp’s, opulent, colorful collection is a favorite of mine. Semi-precious and precious stones and metals are intertwined to create perfectly proportioned works of wearable art. Zapp’s exclusivity (she limits her distribution to a handful of stores and galleries) makes the jewelry even more desirable.

Upstairs on 7th has such amazing clothes and accessories – so unique and so beautiful! I love supporting this gorgeous store because it’s, well, it’s gorgeous, but also because the owner, Ricki Peltzman gives back so much to the community. Seriously wonderful place. Don’t miss it.

It’s an experience to shop at Upstairs on 7th and an experience to wear the cloths. I wore a Ray Harris dress to a wedding and felt like I was wearing a piece of artwork designed just for me.
I wish I would have shopped at her store when I lived closer to DC! Love the beautiful relaxed feel of the clothing. It’s great to read that Ricki gives back to the community, as well. More reason to support her boutique. Thanks for sharing.
